Get Published - DONE!

I took photos of the 2011 Kennebunk Tour de Cure...  Emily used some of my photos for the postcards she sent out to her participants.

I will post a photo when I find that postcard!  Does that count for being published??

I'm published on this website: http://main.diabetes.org/site/TR/TourdeCure/EasternNewEnglandArea?pg=entry&fr_id=8030

In desperate need of an update

I have 5 1/2 months remaining in this journey, and I haven't done NEARLY enough... 2012 is about to be an interesting year...

So, I'm going to revamp the basic structure of the blog.  I won't get rid of the posts I've already done, but will start fresh from here with a "post" for each mission, and update and edit each as I go!

So here we go...who's on board with me?

Getting there...

Last week I went out to Peaks Island again with my roommate and long lost Eagle friend Erin (Hearty Maine Hello) to bike around.  After the fiasco of bicycles we had, we managed to get on the ferry and had a lovely day of riding around.

So this is Hat three, wear one!

I have also been working on my photography business as well.  I volunteered for Keep Kaymi Home - 4 hours with 6 families taking portraits.  I had a great time, and I've received some good feedback from the families!  YAY!  I also sold some of my repurposed jewelry to the Rock and Art Shop in Bangor, ME. My photography business is Hocus Focus - and this project is called Hocus reFocus.
And as always, things are homemade, even the "packaging."

FENWAAAAAAAY YAY

On August 5th, my friend Becky took me to see the Red Sox play the Yankees at FENWAY!  Another goal to check off!  And speaking of goals, I wore my Red Sox baseball hat...so Hat Two, Wear one.  Rather than telling you too much...this is just photos really...

 FINALLY!!

 My future husband...Jacoby.
 My FH running to second...
Some folks got engaged at the game!
 It'll stop, eventually, I promise...
Touching me, Touching you.... (singing, question mark?)
 Here we are!  Proof!
Papelburger!  He didn't pitch, but we were behind the bullpen.  Not many people know who "Chippah and Randy" are or why I call him Pabelburger and quote "LOBSTAH CREAM SAUCE" occasionally, so feel free to watch this awesome video.

 No, Thank you.
 Hat Two, Wear one!
Goodbye Fenway!  Thanks for a lovely time!

Fashionable rainy night

This week I was working on being more fashionable, among other things.  I have been wanting these LLBean riding boots since my friend Jackie told me about them.  Well thanks, LLBean, for discontinuing them once I could afford them :)  What makes these Deerfield Tall riding boots so special, you ask?  Well, let's be honest; I have beefy calves (and I don't mean the kind that will make nice steaks).  LLBean makes a boot with a wider shaft for just that: beefy calves (only available in their wide size, obviously).  Do you know how hard it is to find 10W when you have to call every outlet store?  I even tried NH...they didn't know what I was talking about. Awesome.  So I bought 10M hoping that I can stretch them.  I also bought $30 jeans (which I never do) from Old Navy; Glamour magazine said they were great for all shapes and sizes.  I kind of agree :)  I also got a bohemian shirt at full price (WHAT AM I THINKING??) and to counter these excellent purchases, I got 2 pairs of discounted TALL pants because I'm tired of my students making fun of my short pants.  I have long legs, surprisingly.
So there is the new outfit.  And I wore 2/3rds of it to dinner last night, AT A NEW RESTAURANT!!  The Corner Room had a Living Social deal - Becky and I both got one, and we used Becky's last night with some other friends.  Delicious! Everyone was happy, and we rolled out pretty stuffed.  We did hang around a little bit, due to the torrential downpour and thunderstorm.  No need to look like a drowned bohemian :)  So there it is, a tiny update :)

Hat one; Wear one.

This photo of my first hat in the collection to be worn in public was taken at Scarboro Beach State Park!  Two birds, one nest.  I am still trying to figure out this "fashionable" thing...bear with me.  AND, I've started my fourth book that I have hope I'll actually finish...It's called Beauty Queens and its about a "Miss America" pageant whose plane crashes containing all the contestants and chaperones, etc.  They land on a "deserted" island and have to survive.  It's all very sarcastic and such; right up my alley.  So there you have it - a very minimal update!

Busy bee

Buzz buzz.
Last weekend I actually had the entire Saturday off.  Until I picked up a bouncing shift, then I had MOST of an entire Saturday off!  But I spent the day hanging out with my parents at Owl's Head Transportation Museum.  I hadn't been in probably 13 or more years... but I used to go A LOT.  And my parents still go, A LOT, especially since my dad has a car to show (just not this time around).  I'll take a Corvair please...OR a GTO, or a '66 Mustang, thank you very much.  They even have a great shop...
Complete with aviator gear.  And one of the books in the aviation sections was on Glenn Curtiss, but it mentions my Grandmother's uncle: Admiral John Towers.  I'm guessing there is a family resemblance to my great great uncle John and this photo...
Next stop was Owl's Head State Park...it has a lighthouse.  But it can't count towards my goal, because my Gram wasn't with us.  SOON enough we will get that show underway...  However, I can cross another state park off my list - best news, it was FREE!

We also did a pass by the wharf in town too...and that just screamed all sorts of Fourth of July in Maine:
But wait, there's MORE!
I went to TWO new restaurants.  Gilbert's Chowder House was a stumbleupon because J's Oyster was PACKED.  I couldn't attend Jenny's 30th Birthday party, so with some arm-twisting, she agreed to get some mussels with me :)  Becky and Catherine came along for good measure too!  Though the mussels were tasty, the service was a bit delayed.  Let's chalk it up to a busy crazy awful day for the staff.  The chowders were great, and I am pretty sure everyone was content with our food while seated on the back deck.  The second place was Aurora Provisions in the West End of Portland.  I was overwhelmed with yummy options on display, but we were headed to the beach so I needed to keep it together. They fixed me up with a delightful chicken salad wrap, iced mocha coffee, and chocolate chip cookie...  LOVED it.  Will definitely go back for a pre-made quiche or more desserts. YUM.

I leave the best and saddest for last.  I finished my third book: Mockingjay.  The Hunger games trilogy is over, sadly, but I am SO delighted for how it turned out.  I love love love this series, and I can't WAIT for the movies to come out.  I finally know what it's like for the Harry Potter and Twilight fans out there who had to wait between book and movie.  I finished it about 20 minutes before I had to work today, but had enough time to ask my dad "Is this how satisfying all books are???"  Haha, he is a much more avid reader than I am.  I can't get off my emotional roller coaster just yet, but I think I might know just the trick: Tina Fey.
